Hello

Hey Mishpocha! I'm Melissa, and I'm so excited to kibbitz with you! As a Jewish woman in her 50s, I am the proud mother of two amazing daughters and the lucky wife of a wonderful man. I'm also an author of multiple novels that focus on the Jewish faith and themes of family. I love to share my stories, whether through the written word or the art of kibbitzing!

My Story

I am a writer, blogger, and now, podcaster from Cincinnati, Ohio. I studied creative writing and journalism at the University of Cincinnati, receiving a BA in English literature and a minor in Judaic studies. In my senior year, I received a grant to study and write about the Holocaust, a topic that is very close to my heart, at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. My articles have been published on Kveller.com, LiteraryMama.com, and Booksbywomen.org, and my short stories have appeared in the Jewish Literary Journal. I was a contributing blogger to the Today Show parenting community, where my piece entitled "The Pittsburgh synagogue shooting occurred on the day of my daughter's Bat Mitzvah" was featured on The Today Show's site. My novella Through a Mirror Clear was published as a serial installment on TheSame.blog, an online literary journal written for women, by women (now available in its entirety on Amazon.com).

Before joining the Jewfolk team, I worked as Assistant Editor for The American Israelite, the oldest Jewish newspaper in the United States. My award-winning novel What She Lost is inspired by her grandmother’s life as a Holocaust survivor, and I am currently at work on the sequel. My latest novel, Eight Wishes, is a holiday romance that unfolds over the eight nights of Hanukkah. I love to try my hand at different genres of writing, yet writing about my family and my personal experiences is what I enjoy most. I am never without a cup of coffee in hand or my little dog Kugel in my lap when I sit down to write! When not at the computer, I cherish time spent playing games, binge-watching shows, traveling, and sitting around the dining room table, laughing with my wonderful husband and two amazing daughters. They are my everything!
